Karen L. Heffel
Principal
Karen joined our predecessor, Stone & Doyle, as an associate attorney in 2009, and she has been a partner at Stone, Doyle & Heffel since 2013. Karen graduated summa cum laude from California State University, Los Angeles, and proceeded to earn her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law.

A. Paul Heffel
Associate
A Southern California native, Paul moved to Sapporo, Japan after earning his B.A. from Azusa Pacific University, in order to continue his Japanese language studies, ultimately becoming a certified Japanese translator specializing in legal and medical texts. While balancing his successful translation business and caring for his young family in Sapporo, Paul remotely attended Purdue Global Law School, graduating first in his class. After relocating his family to the Los Angeles area, Paul joined Stone, Doyle & Heffel as an associate attorney in 2024. Paul’s volunteer activities include the pro bono translation and editing of medical research texts in the field of pediatric orthopaedics.
Associate

Michael C. Doyle
Of Counsel
A founding partner at Stone & Doyle, Mike has remained active in the practice of law while also serving as Chairman of the Econolite Group, Inc. since 1978. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a B.B.A. in accounting, Mike attended Chase College of Law. He is licensed as an attorney in Georgia, Ohio, Wisconsin and California, and he is also a licensed CPA. Mike was a partner in the public accounting firm of Alexander Grant & Company (now Grant Thornton), and served clients in their Cincinnati, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Chicago and Los Angeles offices. He has served as the Chairman of the Huntington Medical Research Institute in Pasadena, California and is Past Chair of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America, headquartered in Washington, D.C..

Hillary joined Stone, Doyle & Heffel as an administrative assistant in 2015 and moved into her present role in 2017. She is a certificated paralegal, and also holds a B.A. in journalism from California State University, Sacramento. Hillary is originally from Northern California, and she has lived in Pasadena since 2012.
